Luciferase cell lines (i.e. luciferase labeled cell lines) constitutively express firefly luciferase. Luciferase can catalyze the oxidation of luciferin. In the process of luciferin oxidation, it will emit biological fluorescence, and the luminous intensity can be accurately quantified. Therefore, Luciferase cell line can be used for new drug/treatment discovery, such as lead compound screening, efficacy evaluation, cell therapy discovery, etc. In addition, bioluminescence imaging with luciferase is a major method for studying in vivo imaging. Therefore, Luciferase tagged cells are usually applied to the construction of a CDX (cell-line-derived xenograft) model, which can directly image in vivo. This method can better simulate the growth environment of tumor cells, and is beneficial for the in vivo research of tumor cell proliferation and drug screening.
